My dad was telling me the other day that my cat might be a certain breed of cat, but I just thought she was just a mix.

Does anyone know?

She's not a certain breed or even a mix of certain breeds, she's just a domestic shorthair like nearly all other cats on the planet (and all three of mine). Her coat coloration is often called tortoiseshell :)

Your cat's a cat of no particular breed - just like over 97% of the cats on this entire planet. Cats were domesticated THOUSANDS of years ago and breeds only established in the last 100 or so. So most cats aren't a breed or even a mix of breeds - they're simply domestics.

The colour of your cat is called "Tortoiseshell" or more commonly, "Tortie". When white's added then it's "Calico" or "Tortie and White".

Aww ♥ She's a cutie! I'm sure she is a Domestic Shorthair, which is a fancy name for a cat of no particular breed, otherwise known as a mix. So you're totally right! Her coat is called Tortoiseshell or Tortie for short. She is not a Calico, like someone else said. Calicos look like this: http://www.hanne-mugaas.com/artblog/Calico_cat_-_P...

She is very cute. She looks like a domestic-shorthair(a mix breed). Her coat coloring is called tortoiseshell. I used to have a cat that look very similar to yours.

P.S. An interesting fact is that most tortoiseshells are female. It is rare for one to be a male.

She looks like a mutt, and a starved mutt. But pictures can almost always capture the wrong moment.

It's a very beautiful cat, and I'd take it in in a heartbeat!
